Latest company news about how to purge weld stainless steel pipe ?

To ensure quality welds when welding stainless steel, you must first purge the pipe. This is particularly important if you are working with materials such as stainless steel that are prone to oxidation. In order to avoid the formation of oxidation on the inside surface of the pipe while welding, it is necessary to replace the air with an inert argon gas. To properly purge weld Stainless Steel Pipe, follow these steps:

Material and equipment needed:

  1. Stainless Steel Pipe
  2. Welding machine that is suitable for stainless-steel
  3. Tungsten electrode (for TIG welding) or welding wire (for MIG welding)
  4. Inert gas (typically, argon)
  5. Flowmeter/regulator
  6. Purge hose
  7. Purge Gas Diffuser or Inflatable Purge System
  8. Use tape or plugs on the pipe ends to seal them.
  9. Gas flow chart or calculator

Procedure:

  1. Preparation:

    • Be sure to clean the stainless-steel pipe and remove any contaminants. This includes oils, greases, dirt, etc.
    • Cut and prepare pipe ends for joining. Bevel the edge if needed.
  2. Seal the pipe ends with

    • Tape or appropriate plugs can be used to seal both ends. To prevent air entering the pipe, ensure the seals have a tight airtight fit.
  3. Purge Gas Setup

    • Connect the purge gasoline hose at one end to the flowmeter/regulator. At the other, connect the diffuser of purge gas or the inflatable purge device. The diffuser or purge system should be installed inside the pipe.
    • Set the flowrate of the purge gases according to the pipe diameter and type. Consult a gas rate calculator or chart as a guide.
  4. Start the Purge

    • The purge gas will flow out of the pipe when the gas is turned on. Monitoring the flow will ensure that it is constant and maintains the required flow rate.
  5. Welding:

    • When the purge is complete (usually after several minutes), you can begin welding.
    • Use the proper welding technique on stainless steel.
    • Maintain a constant and smooth welding bead. Avoid sudden stops or starts as this can introduce contaminants.
  6. Post-Welding:

    • After completing your weld, continue to let the purge air flow for a short time to allow the area you welded to cool down slowly. This reduces oxidation.
    • Remove the seals with care from the pipe end.
  7. Inspectand Clean:

    • You should check the weld area for any defects like cracks or holes. Cleanse the weld area if needed and remove slag, spatter, or any other contaminates.

Purging properly is key to achieving corrosion-resistant, strong welds in stainless steel. You can achieve best results by following the recommended gas flows and welding procedures.
